Forte Vanessa

Sono un’archeologa preistorica e specialista del laboratorio LTFAPA, ho esperienza nello studio della tecnologia antica e della cultura materiale. Ho conseguito la laurea e il dottorato di ricerca in Archeologia presso l’Università La Sapienza di Roma. In questo periodo ho iniziato a studiare la ceramica attraverso analisi archeometriche, le tracce di manufattura e uso e l’archeologia sperimentale per ricostruire i comportamenti culturali e gli aspetti sociali delle produzioni antiche. Dopo il dottorato, sono stata Marie Curie fellow presso il McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research dell’Università di Cambridge, dove mi sono occupata della specializzazione artigianale in Preistoria combinando archeometria, use wear e archeologia sperimentale. Nel 2020-21 sono assegnista presso l’Università di Pisa, nell’ambito del Progetto PROCESS – PRIN 2017. Nel 2021 ho ottenuto un finanziamento STARS StG dall’Università di Padova e nel 2022 un finanziamento MUR-SoE. Negli ultimi anni ho sviluppato una metodologia per studiare l’utilizzo degli strumenti tessili integrando l’analisi dell’usura e dei residui con l’archeologia sperimentale. Ho applicato questo approccio a strumenti da tessitura di contesti che spazianmo dal Neolitico al periodo romano.

SCIENTIFIC PROFILE

I am a Prehistoric archaeologist and a team specialist of the LTFAPA laboratory with experience in ancient technology and material culture. I obtained my MA and PhD in Archaeology at Sapienza University of Rome. During this period, I began to study ceramics through compositional analyses, trace analysis and experimental archaeology to investigate cultural behaviours and social aspects of production. After the PhD, I was a Marie Curie Fellow (H2020) at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, Cambridge University (UK) where I focused on craft specialization in Prehistory combining archaeometry, use wear and experimental archaeology. In 2020-21 I was a post-doc researcher at the University of Pisa, as part of the PROCESS Project – PRIN 2017. In 2021 I was awarded a STARS StG at the University of Padova and in 2022 I received a MUR-SoE Grant. I recently developed a methodology to study the actual use of textile tools integrating use wear and residue analysis with experimental archaeology. I applied this approach to textile assemblages from diverse chronological and cultural contexts spanning from the Neolithic to the Roman period.
