Buzi Paola

Laureatasi presso La Sapienza Università di Roma nel 1995 – dove ha studiato Egittologia con Alessandro Roccati e Lingua e letteratura copta con Tito Orlandi – ha conseguito nel 2002 nel medesimo ateneo il dottorato di Ricerca in Egittologia. Per cinque anni ha poi collaborato con il Dipartimento di Archeologia dell’Alma Mater Università di Bologna in qualità di assegnista di ricerca, combinando interessi di Egittologia e di Cultura copta. Da gennaio a ottobre 2010 ha lavorato presso la Universität Hamburg, su incarico dell’Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen, allo scopo di catalogare i manoscritti copti conservati in Germania.
Agli interessi di tipo storico-letterario e codicologico unisce da sempre quelli per la ricerca archeologica, egittologica e coptologica. Ha partecipato a numerosi scavi in Italia e in Egitto.

Dal 2008 al 2015 è stata co-direttrice della missione archeologica a Bakchias, Fayyum, Egitto, e dal 2020 è co-direttrice della missione a Hujair Gubli e Magal, IV cataratta, Sudan

Ha diretto e continua a dirigere il progetto ERC “Tracking Papyrus and Parchment Paths: An Archaeological Atlas of Coptic Literature. Literary Texts in their Geographical Context” (paths.uniroma1.it; https://atlas.paths-erc.eu/)

SCIENTIFIC PROFILE

Paola Buzi graduated from Sapienza University of Rome in 1995, where she studied Egyptology with Alessandro Roccati and Coptic Language and Literature with Tito Orlandi. In 2002, she obtained a PhD in Egyptology from the same university. For five years she collaborated with the Department of Archaeology at the Alma Mater University of Bologna as a Postdoc research fellow, combining her interests in Egyptology and Coptic culture.

From January to October 2010 she worked at the Universität Hamburg, on behalf of the Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen, with the aim of cataloguing the Coptic manuscripts preserved in Germany.

In addition to her interest in history, literature and codicology, she has always been interested in archaeological, Egyptological and Coptic studies. She has participated in numerous excavations in Italy and Egypt.

From 2008 to 2015 she was co-director of the archaeological mission at Bakchias, Fayyum, Egypt, and since 2020 she has been co-director of the mission at Hujair Gubli and Magal, IV cataract, Sudan.
